PSG Institute of Management, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and Goonj has joined hands to promote the spirit of giving during the “Joy of Giving” week, an event to be held between September 27, 2009 and October 3, 2009.
Goonj is a not for profit organization that focuses on providing the basic necessity of clothing to the economically poor in rural India by encouraging and managing transfer of used clothes. Goonj, started by Anshu Gupta, an Ashoka Fellow, also collects old newspapers, one sided used papers, footwear, books, dry ration, toys, school material etc. These materials are used by Goonj as a motivation for villagers to repair roads, dig wells, build bridges and engage in cleaning initiatives, all in their own villages.
PSG Institute of Management, will be the Goonj collection centre for Coimbatore city. The institute will also provide volunteers to further this initiative.
Individuals interested in supporting this initiative can contact Dr Vivek at 09943160080 or Dr Ramkumar at 09843297737. We welcome institutions and organizations to join this endeavor and our volunteers would be interested in giving presentations detailing this endeavor.
