Mr. P. Uday Shankar

Mr. P. Uday Shankar is a renowned pioneer in market-driven Microfinance, a model which was replicated across India. His 18 years of quintessential grass-roots experience in rural development finance paved way for three pristine assignments in his career. He was the CEO of IASC, a microfinance institution owned by HDFC Ltd, from its inception. He was chosen for the prestigious Boulder-USA Microfinance training in microfinance in 2002 from India. He had a stint as Visiting Professor in PSG-IM during 2011.

He later joined Water.org as its Country Director-India and Director, Catalytic Finance. Uday Shankar assisted them in taking the institution pan-India in Water and Sanitation Microfinance.

Good at policy advocacy, he was responsible for assisting the RBI in bringing out two crucial policy changes in Microfinance and was a member of a microfinance practitioners’ team which drafted the Microfinance Bill for the Parliament. He is a graduate from BHU, Varanasi and a post-graduate in Agricultural Economics from TNAU. MrUday Shankar is an accredited Green Banking Specialist and specializes in Climate Finance.
